Week #20

Reminders/Announcements:

*Please sign/initial your child's agenda daily.
*Students are asked to read nightly for at least 45 minutes.
*Skating: Thank you for returning the permission slip for our skating days. A couple of important notes:
  1. All parent volunteers must have a Vulnerable Sector Check before volunteering or have begun the process. Parents who have indicated they were interested in volunteering but do not have their Vulnerable Sector Police Check can apply online at  https://www.ottawapolice.ca/en/about-us/Level-3---Vulnerable-Sector-Check.aspx  A letter from the school (on school letterhead) stating that you are seeking a Record Check for the purposes of volunteering at the time of submission is available. This letter will waive a portion of the fee. Please let me know when you need it.
  2. The school has extra skates for lending, but the sizes are very limited. Helmets are also hard to come by. Please let me know as soon as possible if your child needs to borrow skates from our school. We will need to see the availability of sizes and try on a few for the perfect fit.
  3. Our first skate is on Thu. Feb 20, 2020 at 1:00 - 2:00 pm.
*School Dance-A-Thon: Let's get those pledges! There are lots of prizes to be won. Thanks to our School Council we will be having our first Dance-A-Thon on February 13th. Any completed forms and funds can be brought to the school before the deadline.

*Homework: A new assignment will be distributed to the students on Monday. The students will have a full week to work on each assignment. We will correct each assignment as a class the following Mon.

Week #18

*Students are asked to read nightly for at least 45 minutes.
*Homework Update: For the second part of this school year, the homework assignments will consist of reading comprehension, writing, or a math assignment. These assignments will help the students prepare for the EQAO Assessment (Standardized Testing) in the Spring. Like the previous homework routine, the students will have a full week to work on each assignment, we will correct each assignment as a class.
*Skating Permission form was sent home last Friday. Please note our class' skating times.

*Our Social Justice Club will be collecting cans during the Advent season for the Shepherds of Good Hope. Bring your cans until Dec. 19

*PJs with a Purpose! St Martin de Porres' Advent Project

Our school will be collecting funds for Pyjama Patrol. Every Friday during the weeks of Advent we are collecting $2 and students can wear their PJs to school. Pyjama Patrol was locally created to give children in need of new pajamas. Since it started in 2015, Pyjama Patrol has collected over 10,000 new pairs of pajamas and has supported shelters, food banks, schools and charities that assist children in need, in and around Ottawa. For more information regarding this initiative, please visit the Pyjama Patrol website. Donations for the three weeks can be made on school Cash Online.
